Manhattan Wind Ensemble, Inc. (MWE) is expanding!
Beginning in the 2026–2027 season, MWE will operate as two ensembles under one organizational umbrella:
Manhattan Wind Ensemble (MWE)
A select, audition-only ensemble continuing MWE’s tradition of advanced wind band performance. MWE rehearses on Monday evenings from 7-9pm.
Manhattan Symphonic Band (MSB)
A new ensemble designed to welcome more musicians into the MWE community while continuing our commitment to meaningful, challenging, and high-quality music making. MSB rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9pm.
Both ensembles are part of the same organization and share the same values, mission, and commitment to artistic excellence.
Joining Manhattan Wind Ensemble, Inc.
All new members must complete an audition to join the Manhattan Wind Ensemble organization.
Once accepted, you are a member of MWE, Inc. and may participate in Manhattan Symphonic Band.
Current MWE members do not need to re-audition to remain part of the organization — you are already members of MWE, Inc.

Audition requirements, timelines, and materials will be posted each season. Access our AUDITION PACKET below which includes excerpts, detailed description of requirements, upload link and registration form. Audition videos are to be submitted digitally through the link provided.

Placement in Manhattan Wind Ensemble
Manhattan Wind Ensemble is a select ensemble with placement determined through an annual audition process.
Musicians interested in performing in Manhattan Wind Ensemble must audition each season.
Placement in MWE is not permanent and is reviewed annually to ensure the ensemble continues to pursue an elevated musical experience for all members.
Members who are not placed in MWE remain valued members of MWE, Inc. and may participate in Manhattan Symphonic Band.
Manhattan Symphonic Band
Manhattan Symphonic Band is our second ensemble and is open to all accepted members of MWE, Inc.
MSB will continue the spirit of what MWE has always been: a community of dedicated musicians creating significant musical experiences together.
Members should expect:
- Challenging and rewarding repertoire
- High-level rehearsals and performances
- A supportive musical environment
- Opportunities to grow as musicians
Both ensembles will perform substantial repertoire and will present artistically meaningful programs.
Can I Play in Both Ensembles?
Yes! Members may participate in both ensembles when instrumentation needs and scheduling allow.
Members performing in both ensembles will typically do so on different instruments unless approved by the Music Directors based on ensemble needs.
